Payment information
Last updated: 5 November 2026
This page gathers, in one place, the information a cardholder should have before paying on Dhihvaa: who you are paying, in what currency, where the business is, how your card details are handled, how the vehicle reaches you, and how to get your money back.
What you are paying for
Dhihvaa is an online marketplace for renting vehicles in the Maldives. Vehicle owners list cars, scooters, motorcycles, pickups, vans, bicycles and boats; renters book them for a chosen date range. When you pay, you are paying for the use of a specific vehicle for the dates shown on your booking, plus the Dhihvaa service fee, GST, and a refundable security deposit where the owner requires one. Fuel, fines, and any damage outside normal wear are not included.
Who you are paying
Dhihvaa is a sole proprietorship registered in the Maldives. It is not a company, and the owner is personally responsible for the business.

Currency and country
Every price on Dhihvaa is shown and charged in Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR). No other currency is offered, and we do not convert currency on your behalf — if your card is issued outside the Maldives, your own bank sets the exchange rate and may add its own fee.
The merchant outlet country is the Republic of Maldives. Your payment is acquired in the Maldives, and your card statement will show a Maldivian merchant.
How you can pay
Card payments are processed by Bank of Maldives through BML Connect. Visa and Mastercard are accepted, as is BML MobilePay. Payment options are shown on the checkout screen, with the total amount, before you confirm.
Security of your card details
Your card number is never entered on Dhihvaa and never reaches our servers. When you confirm a booking you are taken to Bank of Maldives' own hosted payment page, where the card details are entered directly into the bank's systems. Dhihvaa stores no card numbers, expiry dates or security codes, and has nothing to disclose if asked for them.
All traffic to and from Dhihvaa travels over TLS (HTTPS) with HTTP Strict Transport Security enforced, so a browser will refuse an unencrypted connection to this site. The bank's payment page is likewise encrypted, and card transactions are subject to the card networks' authentication programmes, which may ask you to confirm the payment with your bank.
When the money moves
Dhihvaa receives your payment and holds it, in Dhihvaa's own bank account at a licensed Maldivian bank, until the rental is finished. The owner's share is released to them three days after the rental completes. Your security deposit is returned in full three days after the vehicle is returned, unless a dispute about damage is opened in that window. Dhihvaa is not a bank and this is not a trust arrangement: the money is held by the business, not ring-fenced from it.
How the vehicle reaches you
Nothing is shipped or posted. A Dhihvaa booking is fulfilled by the owner handing the vehicle over to you in person, on the island where it is listed, at the place and time the two of you agree in the booking's message thread. You confirm the handover in the app, and the owner confirms it as well, which is what starts the rental.
Delivery to another location is not a Dhihvaa service. Some owners may offer it privately; any such arrangement is between you and the owner, is not paid for through Dhihvaa, and is not covered by anything on this site. You must present a valid driving licence accepted in the Maldives, and the identity you verified on your Dhihvaa account must be your own.
Legal restrictions, duties and taxes
Dhihvaa sells no goods, so nothing is imported or exported and no customs duty or import charge arises on a booking. Goods and Services Tax is charged on the rental at the rate in force and is shown as a separate line at checkout; the amount you see is the amount you pay, with no duty or charge added later. Vehicles may only be driven by the person who booked them, on public roads where that class of vehicle and licence is permitted, and within the Maldives.
Cancellations and refunds
Cancel more than 48 hours before pick-up and the rental is refunded in full. Cancel inside 48 hours, or fail to turn up, and the owner keeps one day of the rental and the rest is refunded. The security deposit always comes back in full. The Dhihvaa service fee is not refunded when you are the one cancelling, and is returned when the cancellation was not your choice — if the owner cancels, or never accepts the booking. There is no exchange and no store credit; a refund is returned to you by bank transfer. Full detail is on the cancellation policy page.
Keep a copy
We recommend you keep a copy of your booking confirmation email and of these policies, together with the terms of service and the cancellation policy, for your own records. Your bookings and payments also remain available in your Dhihvaa dashboard, and you can download everything we hold about you from your account settings.
Questions about a payment
Email contact@dhihvaa.mv with your booking reference. If you believe a charge on your card is wrong, contact us first — we can usually resolve it faster than a card dispute, and we will tell you plainly if we cannot.
